Port channel confusion

Good day to All

I have a bit of confusion going on, possibly just in my head!  I have 2 x M3024 power connects stacked, then I have 2 x X4012 switches which attach to Nutanix.  My problem is that I keep getting a loop when I connect the stack to the second X4012.  See photo for layout.  IMG_20181002_203510.jpg

Am I correct in using the same Port Group number from both x4012 switches or should it be different? and Do I add the vlans the Port groups or the ports themselves?

I have used RSTP on all the connections yet still I get locked out when I connect the X4012 sw2 to the 3024 stack.  The X4012 is quite difficult to work on as most of the config seems to be done in the GUI.

Any ideas or script examples would be appreciated.

Hi Daniel

Thank you for the answer, is there a way to make the combination of switches eg: 2 x x4012 and 2 x3024, highly available with 3 Nutanix Dell XC hosts?  I can't see a way if the 2 x x4012's create a loop  Do I need to break the 3024 stack and treat them independently?  When I configured it and the loop knocked out 1 x X4012 the Nutanix hosts were also inaccessible too.

Hi Daniel

Many thanks for making this clearer and the recommendations on the switches.

Best regards

Hi Daniel

Thank you for the pointers, what would be the recommend switches to allow for HA in a Nutanix environment of 3 or 4 nodes, it looks like x4012 are not the ideal in this situation?

Hi Daniel

I was pondering this LAG / Port Channel problem, would I be better off removing the x4012 to x4012 link and taking more links back to the TOR stack so each switch would have a link to each switch in the stack - one on each would be blocked but at least if one of the x4012 fell over I would still have a direct connection to the other from the stack.  Or not?

Thanks
