Powerconnect 3024 Factory Reset
I took over the IT work for a small company in my area and they have a powerconnect 3024. The previous IT tech left no information for the switch. I need to access the switch, but all attempts have failed. How can I access the switch if the IP is unknow and the null modem port isn't letting me access the switch. I need to do a factory reset so I can manage the switch.

Hi there,
Sorry to hear that you're having problems - I understand that you said that the null modem port isn't letting you access the switch (possibly because the switch is password protected) but if you are able to try connecting to it again via the null modem port and let us know if the following works, it would be a great help:
1. Connect to the switch via the console port and manually reboot the switch
2. As soon as power is applied, press and hold the ESC key
3. At the command prompt, type "EmergencyPasswordReset" (case-sensitive without the quotation marks)
4. At the confirm (Y/N) prompt, type X
5. If done properly, you will receive a message stating that the password has been disabled
6. Type G and hit enter to reboot the switch
Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response. I've tried this several times with different hyperterm settings. I've search the web for the answer for several days and my son has asked his college network security teachers to no avail. It seems that the system is also blocking any replys to a ping. I can run a pathping and at one point I get * * * as a result. We have also run an angryIP scanner on the network put come up with nothing. There's no way to reset the IP back to the default IP without access the switch through a port or web service?

Hi there,
The only way that the switch can be accessed via web browser is if you know the IP address of the switch. The default is 192.168.0.1 and the default username is "root" and password is "switch" - I've added this information just in case these haven't been tried but I'm presuming that they already have.
I've sent you a friend request as this is the only we can send you a direct message - the friend request will have my e-mail address, if you can send me an e-mail regarding this, it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks again!
