PowerConnect 3448p keeps shutting down

I hope this is the right forum for this...

I have a Powerconnect 3448p that today started shutting down without an apparent reason (none that has been determined yet).  I we unplug the device and plug it back in, it comes back to life, but then shuts down again.

To my knowledge, nothing new has been introduced to our network.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Daniel --

There are no red lights on the device (once I get it powered up).  It looks OK to me.

Sadly, as I am only the computer science teacher (and more adept at software than networks), coupled with the fact that I do not have an admin rights/privileges on the network, I cannot get the the admin console to look at any logs.  I am confident though, that if I were to get the rights, I can figure out what is going on.  I am working that angle right now...

As far as how long it stays up, that varies.  I reset the machine at about 9:00 ET -- that was about 45 minutes ago and it is still running.

I am working to get a) a way to determine the IP address of the device (without consulting the network guy as he is on vacation) in the hopes of connecting to it via a web browser and b) if need be, replacing the device with a new one.

Will keep you posted and tanks for getting back to me on this!

It looks like this is an unmanaged switch -- based upon my using tracert and not seeing any devices between the computer and the default gateway.  I am guessing my only recourse to see what, if anything, the server can tell me would be to connect a device with terminal emulation to the switch and see what it tells me -- is this right?

We decided to purchase a PowerConnect 3548P as a replacement -- can this be set up as an unmanged switch so that I can simply take the old one out and this one in?  Is it that simple, or will there be more to consider?

As I am new to the network here, I am sure it would be better to configure the new switch as a managed one -- if I went that route, what would I need to keep in mind to get the new device working?

Thanks

After a bit of work and learning ALOT, I was able to get the switch configured!  Thanks!
