PowerConnect 5548 time questions

I have a 5548 with this configuration information in it:

switch1# show bootvar
Unit  Image  Filename   Version    Date                    Status
----  -----  ---------  ---------  ---------------------   -----------
1     1      image-1    4.1.0.19   11-Jun-2015  10:11:17   Not active
1     2      image-2    4.1.0.20   18-Aug-2015  11:35:45   Active*

Clock-specific configuration lines:

clock timezone EST -5
clock summer-time EDT recurring usa
clock source sntp
sntp unicast client enable
sntp unicast client poll
sntp server poll
sntp server  poll
sntp server  poll
sntp server  poll
sntp server  poll

The 5 servers are all NTP stratum 1 servers directly connected to the switch.

switch1# show sntp configuration
SNTP port : 123 .
Polling interval: 1024 seconds.
No MD5 authentication keys.
Authentication is not required for synchronization.
No trusted keys.

Once we left Daylight Savings Time on Nov 5th, the "show clock" command showed the time was off by one hour, but it had the right timezone.

Two questions:

  1. To get the right time after we transitioned to EDT, I had to manually enter/change the time, even though it showed the right timezone.  Is there something wrong with my configuration?  It doesn't appear to be since the status command above showed the local clock was off by 1 hour.
  2. The red text in show sntp status above says stratum 1, but I believe it should say stratum 2 since the switch is getting its time from a stratum 1 NTP server.  Is that a bug?

Hi,

Did you reboot the switch after the time change to see if it updated to the proper time? If it is pulling time from the NTP server it should be stratum 2, you are correct on that.

No, I did not reboot the switch to update the time; I just manually set it, then deleted/added the time servers back in so it would sync the time correctly.  Every other device on my network transitioned to the right timezone correctly.  I'm disappointed that the switch was the only piece of my infrastructure that required manual intervention.  I guess you don't see anything in my configuration that stands out as being incorrect?  (just doing a sanity check.)

Since I don't have a support contract, can you offer me guidance on how to get bug reports submitted for both issues?

Thank you.

Yes, we can have it escalated but we haven’t had an update in two years so it may not get an update.

Please submit the bugs, or tell me how to do it.  Even if it isn't fixed for my hardware platform, the bugs should be addressed in the next generation one.
