PowerConnect 5548p; apply button missing in vlan port settings

In the Web UI for my stack of 5548p switches, If I go to VLAN port settings, click edit, select a port, and change the port mode from access to trunk, the changes are saved, but then the apply button disappears and I'm unable to make any more changes.

If I attempt to copy the startup config to the running config, I get an error:

The copy operation has failed

Copy: Error in configuration download Line: 24 Command: permit service https

The startup config is a known good configuration that has been running for months. Firmware is on version 4.1.0.8, boot version is 1.0.0.14, and hardware version is 00.00.02.

Any ideas?

The  technicians were able to reproduce the issue, and added it their list of bugs to fix for a future firmware release.

I went ahead and contacted phone support about the issue. I gave them my startup config and running config and they said they would see if they could duplicate the issue.

In answer to your questions:

These symptoms are occurring on a stack of 3 switches as well as a separate single switch. All are 5548p's.

I do see the green success message after clicking apply the first time. But on that same page, the cancel and apply buttons are missing. If I refresh the page, and select the the port again, the cancel and apply buttons are still missing.

I  have tried Chrome 25 and IE9. Both result in the same symptoms.

I'm hesitant to overwrite the existing startup config, as I know it a functional config. (I am able to download the startup config through the web interface, so I do have a backup copy at least.)

I was hesitant to restart the switches during the day, so that's why I attempted to copy the startup config to the running config. I'll have to try a reboot after business hours.

I logged into a lab switch.  I'm not seeing the same response.  Are you getting a green "Success" message when you change for access to trunk and select "Apply" at the bottom left.

I was able to continue editing other ports.

What browser are you using to access the switch GUI?  Have you tried another browser?

Why are you wanting to copy the startup config to the running config?  Are you needing to revert to a previous configuration.  You could reload the switch and it would boot into the startup config then that would become the current running config.

or you can use this command from the CLI

55xx-Stack-LabNet# copy running-config startup-config

It looks like you have the current firmware level.  It may help to flash the firmware again or even use Xmodem to upload the firmware.  It is used to help flash in situations where the current firmware may be corrupt.

Download Software - Option[1]

The software download procedure is used to replace corrupted files or upgrade system software, when the device does not have IP connectivity or when both software images of the device are corrupted and therefore you cannot use the web-based management system.

NOTE: it is highly recommended that, before loading via xmodem, the baud rate of the device and terminal be set to 115200.

To download software through the Startup menu:

1 From the Startup menu, press [1]. The following prompt is displayed:

2 When using the HyperTerminal, click Transfer on the HyperTerminal

Menu Bar and select Send File.

3 In the Filename field, enter the file path for the file to be downloaded.

4 Ensure that the Xmodem protocol is selected in the Protocol field.

5 Press Send. The software is downloaded.

NOTE: After software download, the device reboots automatically.

A reboot of all the switches did not resolve the issue.

Have you heard a response from your phone agent?

I would suggest loading the firmware again using Xmodem.  It is possible that the current firmware install is corrupt.  If so loading the current firmware again using Xmodem would be the process used to resolve the situation.

The agent collected and forwarded the information to someone else.

Is it likely that the firmware is corrupt on a stack of 3 switches and a separate stand-alone switch?

You are correct it is not likely that the firmware on all the devices is corrupt.

Please let us know if and when you have any updated information that leads to a resolution.

thanks
