PowerConnect 6248 and Multicast questions
We'd like to implement the following configuration:
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/2849/diagrama1.png
The switches are both Dell PowerConnect 6248 and the routers are both Juniper M7i.
We need dynamic multicast so we thought of implementing a PIM-SM configuration with static RPs. We have several questions:
- Can the Dell PowerConnect closest to the source act as an static RP for the multicast groups? If the answer is yes, what IP address of the used should be used as the RP (the IP on the multicast source VLAN, the IP of the VLAN connected to the router, a loopback IP?
- What about IGMP queriers and snooping? It seems logical that the Switch acts as the querier on the source VLAN. Is needed anything else?
- Has anyone a sample configuration similar to the diagram above?
Thanks in advance.

Your diagram is remarkedly similar to mine. Just curious if you were able to get this working? We are using Juniper SSG and a SRX at the endpoints, but the rest looks the same...

We replaced all our 6248s. They were quite unstable.

Good answer :)
I'm considering putting the multicast burden on my Juniper's instead... Seems like the Dell support staff are hardware support instead of network support engineers.
