Questions regarding Dell Switch S5248F-ON
Hello everybody,
Below are some questions regarding the Dell EMC S5248F-ON (HW Rev.: A01, SW Rev. OS10-Enterprise 10.5.1.1) which support QSFP28-DD 200GbE.
- Does the switch support CMIS (common management interface specification)? and what is the CMIS version?
- Currently, QSFP28-DD and QSFP56-DD optical modules use CMIS 3.0 or CMIS 4.0.
- FYI, here is the link for CMIS 3.0. http://www.qsfp-dd.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/QSFP-DD-mgmt-rev3p0-final-9-18-18-Default-clean.pdf
- Command line for checking bit error rate (BER) of the optical modules?
- Optical module = AOC (active optical cable) or Transceiver
- Command line for dumping EEPROM of optical module?
Thank you in advance.

Based on a picture showing CMS, I can say that CMS and CMIS is different.
So far, CMIS is for the management of QSFP28-DD and QSFP56-DD only; however, CMS is for various services of the OS.
By the way, do you know command to measure BER (bit error rate) of the traffic?
Thank you.

You’re right, they are different. I didn’t see a command to monitor bit error rate. https://dell.to/3jJnoj8
Reply Reply Thank you for the prompted response.
I am afraid that "Open and programmatic management interface via Common Management Services (CMS)" is not the same as CMIS (common management interface specification).
Is there anyway to confirm that they are the same? And if they are the same, what is the version of the CMIS which the switch supports
Thank you.

Hi skymankr,
I do not see it listed as a feature. https://dell.to/2SCgfVD
It is listed on another switch https://dell.to/3jA40F0
