Reset password on stacked 8164
Hello,
We have a pair of 8164's (running v5.1.0.1) that were setup by a previous admin. We can't find a documented password anywhere, and RADIUS wasn't setup. We are trying to reset the password. When we chose option 12 from the boot menu, the switch loaded up and became the secondary switch in the stack. However, this means we can't access the cli on this switch to reset the password. I can't easily reset the other switch, due to an incomplete wiring setup (the other switch has the only uplink).
I've searched, but can't find a password reset procedure for stacked switches. Will I need to reset the other switch and also put it in password recovery mode to pull this off?
Thanks.

Well, we had a bit of an odd problem, but interestingly, it helped us fix our issue.
The next night after posting, the switch primary switch (that we hadn't rebooted) had some type of issue, and failed. I think it rebooted. Unfortunately, someone had turned off the logging, so I don't know what happened. :( But as a result, the stack failed over the primary to the one I did the password recovery on. It allowed me to get into it without a password and change the password! We now have documented passwords and AAA is setup.
So if you need to reset the password on a pair of stacked switches, you can reboot one into password recovery mode, then reboot the other switch to force a failover. At that point, you can log into the console on the switch in recovery mode.

I had a feeling the answer would be something like that. Thanks!

Yep, we turned logging back on right after setting up the AAA. :)
