S4048-ON Stack Master Replacement

Hi guys,

I hope you're well.

Could someone please provide me some information on how I should replace the master switch in my stack of S4048-ON switches are the steps the same for adding an additional switch or does the entire stack need to be rebooted?

Will SW02 (current master) stay this way until the entire stack is rebooted in which I will just leave the stack running without a reboot as I do not care which is master. I don't want to add the replacement master switch and have the stack force a master re-allocation and have the stack defaulted.

Here is the procedure I typically follow:

Manually Assigning a New Unit to an Existing Stack:

To manually assign a new unit a position in an existing stack, use the following steps.

1. On the stack, determine the next available stack-unit number, and the management priority of the management unit.

EXEC Privilege mode
show system brief or show system stack-unit

2. On the new unit, number it the next available stack-unit number.

EXEC Privilege mode
stack-unit stack-unit-number renumber stack-unit-new-number

3. (OPTIONAL) On the new unit, assign a management priority based on whether you want the new unit to be the stack manager.

CONFIGURATION mode
stack-unit stack-unit-number priority priority-number

4. Assign a stack group to each unit.
CONFIGURATION mode

stack-unitstack-unit-number stack-group stack-group-number

5.Connect the new unit to the stack using stacking cables.

Regards,

Dan.
