S4048T-ON Track ip host reachability

Question

Hi All,

We're using 2 S4048T-ON switches for our core network configured with VLT and want to setup redundancy to 2 different ISP links, I was hoping to achieve something similar to Cisco IP SLA behaviour.

Setup an icmp probe to ping a public IP for reachability and if it becomes unreachable use policy based routing to set the next hop out the other ISP link.

I configured a track ip host x.x.x.x reachability where x is a public IP of one of the ISPs and tried to setup icmp as a probe for this track but I'm getting the below error, just to note that this was done only one of the switches in the VLT domain while testing.

core_sw01(conf-track-3)#probe icmp
% Error: Setting probe not applicable to this object type.
core_sw01(conf-track-3)#exit

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Josh,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I forgot to mention that we created a test VRF and when I create the track and specify that VRF it gives me that error when selecting icmp as a probe. When I create a track and don't specify any VRFs I can select the icmp as a probe without issues.

Hi, Simon. Could you please provide a sample configuration likes Cisco IP SLA function using Dell FTOS9 ? I have the same question, but I can't do it on the S4048-ON switch.

Hi All,

We are using two Dell S5248F-ON switches in our core network, configured with VLT. We want to set up redundancy with two different ISP links using static routes. If the primary link goes down, the secondary link should automatically take over. I am looking for a solution similar to Cisco's IP SLA behavior.

Has anyone implemented something like this before? Any concerns or suggestions? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure if what you want to do is possible., since these are switches and not routers. They're also are not designed to be edge devices, so really you would need to uplink to a router that can handle multi wan.

@DELL-Chris H ​ then, what is the purpose of 'Track route reachability' feature within OS10? I would like to use in similar way, as watcher and default route manipulator on core VLT switches pointing to perimeter firewalls. I would very appreciate config example. Thank you
