VLAN Trunk on 2724
We are thinking of getting a few 2724 powerconnect switches to use in a test network. The plan is to have one switch in each building with fiber connect them together. Each switch would have to have 3 seperate vlans that would match the other. The Vlans do not need to talk with each other, but VLAN 1 on switchA would need to talk with VLAN 1 on switchB. Will the 2724 work and how do you config the trunk port?
Thanks
Thanks

Yes. That's correct :-). The other ports would be setup in "access" mode.
Access is defined as:

Normally VLAN 1 is for management and is not sent tagged between the switches but you can have all untagged traffic between the switches be on VLAN 1 and have VLAN 1 be sent untagged between the switches on the trunk (all the other VLANs on the trunk would be tagged of course).
The 2724 supports web configuration so there is no explicit "trunk" mode on the web screen however you can configure a VLAN trunk port easily enough. A VLAN trunk by definition is simply:
You can configure the 2724 with all these options. Additionally eventhough typically a trunk port does not accept untagged traffic, if you still want to have VLAN 1 between the switches then you will need to allow untagged traffic on this port so you really need to use a "general" port mode (basically a hybrid between trunk and access VLAN port) which is also possible to setup on the 2724.
