VRRP on OS10 static VXLAN

We are building some static VXLANs on OS10 10.5.4.201 with 5248s and 5224s. The docs only mention Anycast as the protocol for virtual IPs for clients to use as default gateways. Apparently anycast can also be used for plain old SVIs as well as VRRP. Anyone know if the reverse is also true? Could we use VRRP on VXLAN virtual-interfaces instead of Anycast VIPs?

The reason: with anycast our data center networking is pretty much active-active by default. However, we are still on a L2 connection between data centers and steering return traffic to preferred gateways with VRRP priorities. If we could decouple the VXLAN migration from the active-passive/active-active issue we would like to do that.

Nope. Not going to work. You can run an unrouted VLAN over a virtual-network, but you can't put an IP on a VLAN connected to a virtual-network. You have to have the interface. Labbed it up in GNS3.

Hello,

Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) is not supported on a virtual-network interface. Configure the virtual anycast gateway IP address to share a single gateway IP address on both VTEP VLT peers and use the anycast IP as default gateway on the VMs.

You don't actually HAVE to put an IP address on the virtual-networkXXX, right? A static VXLAN segment really doesn't need any IP address at all (in which case I guess we don't actually need the virtual-network interface, as the VLAN maps to the virtual-network, not its interface). We could leave the IP addresses on the VLAN interfaces and continue to use VRRP. We are not routing in the overlay with a static VXLAN, we're just tunneling MAC addresses around.
