Actiontec modem dialing & negotiating problem

I have experienced connection problems with my recently acquired refurbished Inspiron 2650 witn an Actiontec modem. The modem operates fine and then after loading windows updates and proprietary software, the modem "hiccups" as it dials a number usually causing a wrong number and if connected to the ISP it fails to negotiate the squelch handshake. I am still trying to identify the software or update that causes the conflict.
Has anyone had similar experiences. Is this modem error prone?

The best driver for the MD56ORD is here.  Works for XP or 2K.

I have experienced similar hiccups. It has also dialed the incorrect number about half the time. I downloaded and installed the drivers below. Testing is being done at this point.

hvlevy,  Did the drivers resolve the problem?

I already had that driver thanks.  It turned out not to be a modem issue.  This is a refurbished computer that I just received as a replacement for one that was under warranty.  The problem is that I added a memory chip to the system which resulted in the whole system to hesitate every 2 seconds thereby causing the dial out problem.  The memory was not the cause rather the motherboard needs to be replaced becasue that dimm socket is defective.

Thank you for responding, you work very fast!

I have not tested my system since, but I found it rather odd that the same symptoms occurred.

When the phone would dial, it would stop in the middle of dialing for about 1/3 of a second and inturrupt a digit causing a misdial. Was yours similar? The ram was not upgraded, nor modified. My company has many of these, and this is the only one I have seen.

I found the problem when I noticed that the screen saver behaved the same way with action and sound hesitating every 2 seconds.  You moght want to check with tech support at Dell if your screen saver behaves the same.
