I think you that you can find information about changing the mini-PCI card in the user manuals which can be downloaded from this site.

If you changed the RAM yourself, then you should have no problem changing the mini-PCI, it's only 2 screws underneath the laptop and the card is in a socket similar to the ones where the RAM is. You might want to check if you need to plug the cable though, it might be the antenna, It's been a while since I've done this.

Is it easy enough to buy the card? direct from Dell or do i need to get it elsewhere.

Sorry for the long delay - I've been really busy.  The 1450 card is a/b/g - the euro site has it labeled wrong.  This is the link to order it.
