Bluetooth modem drivers
Dell Inspiron E1505 with bluetooth module 355 installed
Windows xp sp2
I am having major issues with my bluetooth and DUN via my cell phone. I did have this set up before and working just fine, but I visited the dell support section for the rev 14 bios update, I thought there was an upgrade to the bluetooth drivers there so I downloaded and installed. However that errased my paired devices. SO I started over and now I run into a strange problem. My bluetooth modem is gone.
When I check the phone devices in control panel, I have a bluetooth fax modem, a bluetooth null modem and a conexant HDA D110 MDC V.92 modem... but no bluetooth modem.
I reinstalled the drivers by doing the following in this order:
- Removed bluetooth module as per the manuals instructions
- Turned on the computer and removed the WINCOMM bluetooth software
- Rebooted and then powered down
- Reinstalled the bluetooth module and powered on. Computer saw new hardware and installed "Broadcom" drivers for it
- I then reinstalled the WINCOMM software (R127314)
- Then, I right clicked the bluetooth icon and "enabled bluetooth" which began to install the various drivers.
- It first installs a bluetooth com port, then Bluetooth network adapter, and then it ATTEMPTS to install the bluetooth modem. However, it flashes through the driver installation screens very rapidly and then a notification always pops up saying "There was an error installing your device and it may not work properly".
- Continues installing other drivers (fax and null modems, audio and high quality audio...etc) without any further errors
At this point everything seems to work fine except for the fact that there is no bluetooth modem now. Furthermore, in the bluetooth services, the DUN service is using the conexant modem (which doesnt work with my bluetooth phone obviously).
- If I pair my phone and then select the DUN option in the phone services, it tells me it found a new device "Bluetooth modem" and attempts to install. It, however, offers up the same error as before.
- If I manually create a bluetooth modem via the control panel, it will create the modem on com 4 as the connexent is on com 3 ( I dont know what all this means). However this manually created modem is still not in the list of modem options for the DUN service in bluetooth services. That remains as the conexant modem)
- When I select properties on the bluetooth modem and go to driver information tab and select driver details it shows two lines of information in the driver files: C\: WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\btmodem.sys and C\: WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\Modem.sys. There is a check mark next to the Modem.sys entry but not the btmodem.sys entry.
- If I try to update the driver via the update driver button in properties, and I chose to select the driver source from a list, the closest driver I can find is the broadcom driver for bluetooth modem. However, this seems to change nothing.
- In bluetooth places, if I select to vew the properties of the DUN gateway on the availabler services for my paired phone, the field next to the "Configure" button is blank and greyed out. If I select configure, nothing happens. If I close out properties and double click the DUn gateway icon, it tries to connect and then tells me the dial-up netowrking connection failed: Unknown Port.
- Lastly, tried the restore option but it will not go back beyond to the latest restore point or any point before hand.
Some one please help me. I have tried to provide as much information as I can possibly think of, but this is really screwing with me. Please help me get this fixed.
