cable internet help

I had cable internet installed today.....I have an Inspiron 4000 running windows 98.

When I try to connect I get nothing....I am using the larger ethernet cables going from cable box directly into my computer.

Cable company says my NIC is not working but I have used this same computer and connected at work using the same type of cable.

What's up?

Make sure the TCP/IP settings under the Network settings for your card are set to get an IP address automatically.

Thanks and how is that accomplished?  Do I need to contact my cable internet provider?

Start - Help - Index tab - put in TCP/IP.  I don't remember how to get to the place to check it in W98, sorry.

When you first click on a link (below - in this message), it might take you to a webpage where you select your "Internet Service Provider/ State/ City".
For the ISP, select Time Warner and choose any State/City that you want. Then click on a link below and it should play the "Flash" tutorial.

Hopefully, this link that visually shows how to setup TCP/IP... will work! ("Setting up TCP/IP")

If you need to "Check/Renew your IP Address" for Win9x/ME... "click here".

Here's the "Macromedia Flash Player download", if you need it.

There's other "How-to" Interactive Tutorials from where I got the above tutorials ("click here").

Aloha,
Rod
