Cannot reachweb

Question

Help me if you can,please. Have a Dimension XPS T500, Windows 98 2nd, U.S. Robotics Voice modem obtained thru Dell.I'm trying to reestablish connection to web sites. This is my sisters computer and I have it, trying to restore service to it. For several years they were on AOL with it and so everything was fine . About 5 weeks ago they lost the ability to view web pages, while still being able to send and receive e-mails. This is true now with the hook up I have it on now,but still cannot view web pages. She had mentioned AOL, nor Dell could figure their problem. This is a hand me down computer that may have been on a net work and we do not have pass words for that dialog box Don't know how much if any of this is related to problem,but have to start somewhere. Thanks to anyone who attempts to help me out.

jojobar, If there is no important information on the system, have you considered formatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows? Steve

Thanks Steve, I would consider anything as there is nothing of value left there> Only problem I can possily forsee is that 98 ia an upgrage and do not have a 95 disk available to start over with. I do not have the knowledge to format myself,but can probably find a way on the internet with this computer. Where as I like to think of myself as being able to do more than just get in the car and drive off, I also don't do a lot under the hood,if you understand.I do a good job of following instructions when supplied. Don't believe the age of this computer warrants hauling into repair shop. If you do any more for me thanks in advance.

Problem resolved doing re-format and installing OS again.Guess I can look under the hood sometimes. However could never have completed operations without 2nd computer for downloads.
