Your make and model of your computer(unknown) bu it has XP(SP2, SP3 ?)
You have Fios internet
I'm guessing you have a wireless router(maybe) since you posted in this forum(make and model would also be helpful)
You have a printer(make and model, unknown and how you are connecting the printer to your computer)
Windows Updates are GREAT for Windows ONLY. Updating drivers from Microsoft you will find that either Microsoft offers the wrong drivers and/or the drivers get installed wrong, causing many devices to fail. ONLY update drivers if you have a problem with a device and go to the manufacturers website for the correct drivers.
If you provide the above information, I'll see what I can do to get everything working for you.
I'll try to be easy on you. Since you already are using the Verizon Fios router, I'll hope they setup the router using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, but that doesn't have any affect on the porinter, unless you're considering printer sharing.
Please follw these instruction very carefully and the printer should install for you with no problems. Let me know the results.
Make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.
Disconnect your printer.
Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch(a MUST on Vista computers) until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)
As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.
My printer is a Dell All in One 946. My cpu is a Dell Dimension 521. My fioz router is a verizon wireless The XP has a service pack3 if that helps. I connect my computer and printer with a usb cord. Is this helpful?
I tried to download the netframework 3.5 and got this error message:
[03/28/09,13:17:54] Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0a: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0a. MSI returned error code 1603 [03/28/09,13:17:59] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0a is not installed.
I downloaded the java before I did the framework one. I already had a java but I thought this one was newer. I don't have silverlight installed as when it first came out
I had problems with it.
I have Framework1.1;1.1 Hotfix KB928366; and framework2.0 Service pack1 on the computer.
The .net framework didn't install correctly. The download may have been corrupted. If using any type of download accellerators, please turn them off. Actually I would remove them as they tend to corrupt more downloads causing more download time.

Error 1603 Microsoft has the solution there.
