Conextant Modem

I have just installed my FOURTH Conextant modem in the 16 mo. since I bought my Dim 2400. I wonder if anyone else is having this kind of problem with this brand of modem?
I, personally, am disapointed since the service tech said that they would send me a different brand as I had already suffered 3 failures in 15 mo. Imagine my suprise and dismay when I opened the box and found yet another Conextant modem inside. I guess that in another 3 mo. I will be making yet another phone call to their tech support because this brand has proven to be so unreliable to me.

I've always used US Robotics, but that's just my choice. Never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.  Be sure you have good lightning protection in place on both the AC power line and phone line.  In the past 40 years as a phone man I've seen lightning do some truly amazing things.....

Good luck.

The pc is still covered by them or I would have switched before now. To me Conextant=junk. I got over 4 years out of my Lucent in my now dead Quantex before it failed.

As for lightening... I was darn near killed by a lightening bolt my first year down in Texas, taught me a lesson. I find it extremely annoying to come home after a week out of town to a pc that can't connect, especially after I have unplugged the modem and pc before I left. The last time the modem failed it took down the whole phone system in my house until I figured out that I was dealing with a dead modem. While I am not enamored with my phone company, they are a necessary evil. The Conextant doesn't seem to be built for the real world.

Was the telephone line unplugged from the modem or just the AC power from the PC?  Most lightning damaged modems are from hits on the telephone line.

My modem was unplugged from the wall. Unless a lightning bolt came in through a window there was no way it could get a surge.
