Dell 1300......A DUD ???????????

 I too have the same problems as everyone else in here that has a 1300 card. After reading ALL the enteries I have come to the conclusion, the card is no good. It can't  be the routers because everyone has mentioned the same problem with diiferent routers. It cant be the cordless phones or whatever channel you are on because people here have mentioned not having cordless phones or microwave ovens or whatever. The only ONE common thing is the 1300 card SO!!! I now beleive that we all own a wireless card that is no good. Now the question....what will Dell do to correct this problem??. Oh I see Dell has told people to reload XP and reset the routers   and... and ...and ...and... and.  WAKE UP DELL THE CARD IS NO GOOD and do something about it.

    I am having a problem and am wondering if it is the problem with the 1300.

    My connection keeps droping for no apparent reason and to get it back I have to turn off the computer and turn it back on. Very frustrasting when it keeps happening when I am transfering files between computers.

    Does this sound like the 1300 problem or is this something different?

    I have the Dell 1300 installed on a Inspiron 8600 and a Linksys router and have no problems. I think you'll find more owners that have success with the card than not

    I have the same drop outs and with a different card. It is probably some config/software pb with protocols. And, there are hundreds of people around the world having the same problem.

    I'm going through all the forum posts I think are related - I had the same problem.  It's not the TM1300 or Linksys, it's XP and the WPA protocal(?).  Lots of people posting this problem everywhere - with lots of different hardware.....

    Found the following info on this forum - seems to have fixed my problem, too.  I suggest Dell pick this up and use the little "alert" message for anyone who bought the 802.11g setup.

    http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,8652639~mode=flat~days=9999~start=40

    It outlines a registry addition/tweak - Includes the registry edit for those who don't want to edit themselves (I can't seem to attach the file itself here).

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EAPOL\Parameters\General\Global]

    "AuthMode"=dword:00000002

    This is definitely a problem, the main issues are regular drop outs of connection; this can be corrected by switching off the 'Let Windows Handle wireless connections' (or words to that effect), there is a known issue with Windows conflicting with the truemobile app. Therefore allow the truemobile app to handle the lot and the drop outs go away. However there is always a "but" and here it comes....

    But....the problem is with that is the truemobile app doesn't support WPA security so you either put with the frustrating regular drop off of connection ('key not found' error) using WPA for best security or you allow the app to handle the lot and use 128Bit WEP and keep the connection.

    The problem is with the card and the application, Dell don't want to admit the fault and will not support you if you ring them, all you get is "the hardware is working so we can't help", extremely lame and unprofessional approach.

    The deciding factor in going with Dell was their support. I had heard it was so good on alot of forums. I guess all good things must come to an end. I have here on file a reply from dell on this issue and it says " Jim, if I understand you , you want to download a 1300 card.. please go to the url listed below for this""  Now come on...download a card......DUH!!!!!   Automated BS

    I agree, it's a problem, and Dell, as the integrator should do more to research and provide a fix.

    In the mean time, there is a fix, as stated at the above forum.  One fix is to not use WPA and go back to WEP - but the noted registry fix worked for me (If we have the same problem).  It allows you to keep using WPA.

    From the other Forum:

    "I can now do better than that workaround. Someone (thanks Alex) sent me a registry fix which seems to resolve the issue (he calls it a workaround, I think it's a fix):

    >> This will solve your WiFi problem! although this
    >> should be considered a workaround,
    >> rather than a fix. With AuthMode set to 2 it means
    >> Machine authentication only.
    >> Whenever a user logs in, it has no effect on the
    >> connection. 802.1X authentication is
    >> performed using machine credentials only.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EAPOL\Parameters\General\Global]
    "AuthMode"=dword:00000002
    "

    Jmordo,

    Can you do me a favour and email me a screen grab of this entry in your registry please? I have tried this and my key drop still seems to happen when using WPA. I want to ensure I have the key correctly entered. If you can email it to neil.soane@dsl.pipex.com

    Appreciate the help.

    Hi,

    I've setup many wireless network and I never seen the problem like T1300. I got it 2 days ago, tried at the office. And I couldn't get the IP. I don't think the problem is with my AP because I couldn't get the IP at home also even the signal strength is excellent. XP problem??? I changed with linksys and it works. I think I'm going to return this card.
