E1505 wireless internet issues

I received my new E1505 inspiron laptop yesterday, and I'm having trouble with the wireless internet connection. Though it says I have an 'excellent' or 'very good' connection, I can't load websites in either Internet Explorer or in Firefox. Sometimes, I can get a connection, but it only lasts for a few minutes at best before giving me the 'cannot find this page' screen again.

I've tried disabling one of the two wireless manager things (Dell / Windows) but that seems to cut off the connection completely.

Please help, and thank you!

I received my new 6400/E1505 about 3 weeks ago and had intermittent problems. It would connect when I turned the laptop on and then die. Searched the forums found out that it could be the drivers.

What kind of wireless network card is included with your E1505. Would it be the Intel 3945?

Check the drivers which are associated with the wireless card. If they are older than version v.10.1.1.4 you can download them from here:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&SystemID=InspironI6400/E1505&os=WW1&osl=EN

Some users prefer the Microsoft Wireless Zero Configuration and some prefer the Intel Proset... it is a preference, but I use the Intel Proset.

There is more here on the Microsoft option,

Thank you- I will try the new drivers.

It's funny- the connection lasted for nearly an hour and a half today and I thought that the problems had been solved, but I moved to another (adjacent) room from the router and the problems started all over again.

Thank you for your help.

What kind of router are you connecting to?

I have heard that there are issues with some types, and/or the setup is not correct.

I have a Linksys WRT54G Ver 4, which also has a modded firmware, so I can adjust the output on the antennas.

I've installed the new drivers, but the connection still comes and goes. I'm connected to the chat tech support thing right now, but I'm 36th in the queue, so I'll be waiting awhile.

There are times when the internet connection is perfect and there are no issues, while at other times it will say I have an excellent connection yet be unable to connect to any websites. If anyone can help me with this, I would be very thankful.

It's a new laptop, right out of the box yesterday afternoon. Everything else is working perfectly, except for the internet connection.

I'm using a Linksys BEFW11S4 router.

What version of firmware is it using?? And also what version of hardware?

I have been googling to see if there are any issues with that model and it seems that 3 years ago there were.

So I don't know if it is the age of the router and the firmware or a setup problem.

Found this comment on the net....

It never occured to me that there were so many issues with the router- my dad and I have been using it for quite some time now with no issues at all. Thankfully, I was able to get in touch with Dell Tech Support and he guided me through (and at times, assumed control) getting my laptop to work reliably.

Now, I'll just hope it goes this smoothly when I move for college...

Thanks for all the help,
Jon

What you need  to do is to change the router channel to 11. if you have intel pro 3945 disable power management from the advance tab when you go to properties from device manager.
