ethernet cards

I have 2 desktops that one has windows 98 and the other XP.One is Dell and the other is not.The other has a KTE120tx ethernet card in it.I belive my Dell card is going bad{per my cable co.}Are ethernet cards interchangable per manufactures?This particular card is a Kingston.

    Ethernet cards require driver support, which is usually supplied with the card, or can be downloaded from the vendor's Web site.

    But why does the cable company think your Dell card is going bad? Are you connecting both machines through a router? If so, the only device seen by the cable system is the router. What symptoms are you experiencing?
