Express Card

                 If ur looking for Wireless express cards for just a wifi connection at hotspots and ur home network....u could purchase a DELL WIRELESS 1390 PC EXPRESS CARD from dell sales....orelse if ur looking for a broadband connection....u can purchase DELL WIRELESS 5700 BROADBAND CARD(VERIZON)...which can give u a connection anytime u need....but this service is provided by only verizon......message me back for more info.

There are several different options for wireless upgrades for this system. One is an external wireless card that will fit in the ExpressCard slot. This card will stick out about 1 inch or so. Also, there is an internal option where the card can be placed inside your system. There are also WWAN (Wide area Wireless Networks) otherwise know as broadband wireless. This type of wireless is a broadband connection provided by cell phone providers such as Verizon, Sprint, or Cingular. I would advise that you make sure your system did not come with an internal wireless card. You can check this in the Device Manager or you can physically examine the mini-card slot to see if you have one. So many Dell systems come built with the internal card. Here is a link to the Manuals for that system. If you look in the service manual for mini-cards it will show you where this is located and how to install this internal card if that is what you purchase.

I checked device manager and found "Dell Wireless 1390 Wlan mini card" Does this mean I can't use a external express card? I checked the dell site and did not find a external express card for the Inspiron 1501. The mini card I have in side seems a little weak. Thanks Bruce

The Dell Wireless 1390 is a wi-fi card that will allow you to connect to 802.11x routers. Those that are typically used for home networks, or hot spots. If you are wanting to use wireless from a service provider such as Verizon, Sprint, or Cingular (the WWAN) where you connect to their cell phone towers for internet service then you can use the ExpressCard for that service. You can use both. You do not need an ExpressCard for the 802.11x connection since you already have that in the 1390 adapter.

Finally someone at Dell  knows what and Express Card is!!!  I have just purchased a used 9400 with an Express Slot.  I purchased a Verizon V640 card for Broadband National Access.  Problem is, my 9400 DOES NOT recognize the V640.  I have contact support (Chat online), they have NO idea what and Express Card is.  Are there special drivers from Dell, or what???  I can Not find anything about this problem!!  Any suggestions or help would greatly be appreciated!

When you purchased this from Verizon they should have given you an installation package that would have the driver on it. Many times you need to install the software first before inserting the card. If you got an installation package please run that disk first before inserting the card. The software will tell you when to insert the card. You can also find additional help from Verizon's technical support site on this card at this link. There are also a VZAccess Manager that is required and then it needs to be configured. The first link also provides helps on how to activate the service. Please let me know if you need additional help and I'll see what I can find.
