hello, i am living in a guesthouse (somewhat like a small apartment/residence) in tokyo. i just moved in. there is internet in every room, provided you buy a lan cable. (which i did) i cannot get my laptop to connect to the net ( i have done tests, the internet in the room works fine on other pcs with the same cable)
please help, its one of my few connections to my family, back home.
are there settings i need to change? いif so, please explain in laymens terms!
What model PC do you have? and what operating system? That info should be on any initial problem post as there are many different Dell models and configurations. It will also allow someone to give you assistance with your system rather than just some general info.

it is a Dell Inspiron 6000, it has an IP address, and all that muck, and in the Systems, everything seems to be working.. Does one need to connect the LAN connection manually through ones pc? i thought that was supposed to happen automatically when the cable went in.
It should connect automatically, however, sometimes you have to connect the Ethernet cable (I assume that is what you are referring to as the LAN cable) then power on the PC and let it connect. If you just connect it while you have Windows running it may not connect.

Oh, in network connections, it says the local area connection *broadcom 440x 10/100... is connected, and firewalled. when i click on it, a box comes up telling me the duration of the connection, yet the internet still is not working. can this be a firewall problem? *even though the weak wireless still works occasionally? if it is, how exactly would i fix it?
wow, that will take a while, because alot comes up, and i have to write it down and type it out on a japanese computer...the keyboards are hard to use!
i did that, but it doesnt seem to work when I type in this bit: >> C:\ipconfig.txt after ipconfig /all ...is there someewhere else i should be typing it?
when i type in ipcongfig /all alot comes up, but I dont quite know where to get the text document...
