inspiron 1525 laptop reinstalled and now no internet

After many start up problems with laptop ie. restart normally or in safe mode and so on, decided to reinstall OS (followed directions in manual).  Gave up on dell support - no help, they'd always tell me it was a software problem. Warranty over and support over.  Well, still have same problem and now I have new problem of no internet connection.  How do I get internet connection back?  any help appreciated

Margaret,

Start, all programs, accessories and right click on the command prompt, left click run as administrator. Type

chkdsk /r          (space between the k and /)

Hit enter. Answer with a y.

Restart your computer. Let the program run until you see the Welcome screen.

Do you get the BSOD now? If so, can you see what it says?

I did all that.  I restarted with no problems.

I left it turned off for an hour before I turned it back on.  Unfortunately, I still get BSOD, but its so quick I can't take a picture or even read it. Then went to black window recovery error screen and then selected start normally and ok  (black screen only came once this time).

Thanks for you patience.

Margaret,

Let try reading the BSOD message. Try this...

How to read the BSOD

Next time the BSOD appears, it will stay there for 60 seconds and give you ample time to write it down.

There was no need to do that.  When I turned it on this morning, BSOD stayed up long enough to take a picture. Yeah! Here's what it said:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Tech Info:

STOP:  0x000000D1 (0x89DFD300, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x89DF20F3)

tunmp.sys - Address 89DFD300 base at 89DF5000,  DateStamp 479190dc

ecache.sys - Address 89D720F3 base at 89D66000, DateStamp 49e01f2c

If you think I should move on to a different topic thread, let me know (since I'm only dealing with BSOD now?) Or I'm happy to continue here too!

Margaret,

Try posting the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error message in the subject line and post the information in the bode at...

Dell Microsoft OS Forum

I think you'll need to run a full diagnostics on the computer. If it's like this says, and I would like to confirm this, it sounds like the hard drive might be failing.

The most common cause of the error is a failing hard drive that has developed bad sectors.  Run a full (extended, NOT just quick) hard drive diagnostic - F12 at powerup to get to the Dell diagnostics.

I too recently got the same quick blue screen on start up.  Pulled the hard drive, put it in my desktop to save all my stuff, put it back in the laptop, then did a full factory restore.  Now, neither Network adapter is showing in the Device manager.  I've been through this post, and installed the drivers in the order that was recommended, and I still don't have them.

Also, when I try to install the wireless drivers it gives me, even after putting in my service tag,  "No compatible hardware found".

(I tried yet again, just to make sure I was installing everything in the proper order, and still have no luck.  Installed the Notebook System Software, restarted, installed chipset, restarted.  When the Dell Support Center opens, upon clicking "About Your System", under the network tab, under network adapter it says "Information not found".  The laptop basically doesn't even recognize that there are network adapters connected to it, which is why I'm pulling my hair out..)

Please Please Please Please help.  I don't know what else to do, and warranty ran out less than 3 months ago :(

I am the original poster of this thread.  Rick was a huge help.  Retrace the steps I used, because that's when I got internet connection back.  However, I was still getting BSOD screen after everything was done.  In the end it was felt that the hard drive was failing.

Here's my update:  A staff member at my work (a young kid) was finally able to solve the problem.  He immediately suspected a memory problem.  He did a different diagnostics test then I tried before (I used F12 and he used F8).  I don't know how different these tools are, but he was able to see it was a RAM problem.  He opened up the back and discovered 2 different memory sticks (I bought the laptop with 3GB).  Both sticks were 2 different brands.  From what he explained, the sticks should be of the same brand, because they probably work at different speeds - therefore confusing the computer. He said its just not a good idea to put in different brands.   After installing 2 sticks of the same brand, I have not had any start up issues and no blue or black screens.  The laptop is running better than it ever did.

On further investigation, both sticks have a new sticker over the brand name and original #s.  One stick matches the original part #, but the other does not match the orignal part# !  (I referred to my system configuration list) I don't know if this is significant, but is probably  a suspect in all this. I was ready to go out and buy a new hard drive, but real glad this kid was able to help me in less than 5 minutes.  By the way, I live in Canada and when I checked out the prices for a new hard drive, they are almost double the price on dell.ca than on dell.com  What's up with that?  The Canadian and American  dollar are almost at par!  Come on Dell.
