Intel Pro Wireless S24EvMon excessive CPU usage

One of the components of Intel's ProSet/Wireless manager for the Intel 3945ABG chipset is causing excessive CPU usage.  The S24EvMon.exe program (service) uses 40% CPU time every 5 seconds.  This occurs even with wireless switched off and it is affecting my battery life.  Does anyone know of a way to disable this service when the wireless radio is disabled, and have it start up only when wireless is turned on?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Steve.

How do I let Windows manage the wireless instead of Intel's Proset?  Do I have to uninstall Proset, or can I just turn if off?

If you let Windows manage the wireless network instead of the Intel ProSet utility, does the same problem occur?

I don't have the ProSet utility so I can't provide the exact wording.  But, you should be able to open the utility and uncheck the box next to something like "Let this utility manage my wireless network settings".  You can then Open Network Connections, right click your wireless network connection, select Propoerties, click on the Wireless Networks tab and check the box next to "Use to Windows to configure my wireless network settings".
