JOEARCHAEOLOGIST,

Did you upgrade to the Windows 10 Drivers? If so, click the link below for help in resolving this issue.

Dell Networking and Wireless Support Center

July 13th, 2016 19:00

upgraded W10 drivers, then followed Dell Networking and Wireless Support Center directions for W10.

Network troubleshooter did not identify any problems, though being offline, functionality is limited.

Networking commands were mixed. Winsock and IP resets worked, along with release.

ipconfig /renew gave complete errors with 'no operation can be performed" when media are disconnected (for wifi and LAN connections), therefore error when renewing interface ethernet, unable to contact DHCP server - timing out. /flushdns works.

Ethernet Realtek status indicates internet connection on IPv4, no network access on IPv6. Lots of bytes being sent and received. Media state enabled, speed 1.0 Gbps.

When I'm in setting => ethernet => network and sharing centre and I select set up connection or network => connect to the internet, I am told that I'm already connected, but if I open a browser there is no connection, and if I make a new connection (using my ISP PPPoE login I'm told that I'm connected (lots of bytes sent/received, but again I'm connected on IPv4, not IPv6, and the brower is not connected). Troubleshooting again cannot identify a problem. status quo on computer and modem/router reboots.

I can connect easily by wifi and ethernet to my linux laptop. Wifi to my XP laptop (doesn't like the ethernet). my ios and android devices connet to the the wifi no problem. wifi from the Dell likewise fails - sees the router, connects, but does not yield internet access. At this stage, moving to Linux is looking pretty good.

I have confirmed that the modem/router are working, as are the ethernet cables.

The problem remains the windows 10 Dell, which can see the internet via ethernet IPv4, trading bytes back and forth, but internet browser access remains elusive. Pinged successfully, rolled back and updated the adapter, no luck with troubleshooter, all but ipconfig /renew worked (because no operation can be performed on the network connections when their media are disconnected), firewalls off, antivirus off. I have not uninstalled the network adapter as the problem goes across the ethernet, wifi and the usb wifi. the only thing I haven't done is reinstall all network devices.

Aside from that, any suggestions?

Joe
