limited or no connectivity?

Insp9300 Broadcom 440x Intel Pro Wireless 2915abg ok, about 2 weeks ago my ability to get on the internet went downhill. I use a Linksys router here at home, then went away and tried logging onto a friends DSL wireless/wired modem. used his password/login combo and it worked fine. but I could get it in my room (army barracks) so I got a Linksys wireless USB device hoping I could use it to grab the wireless signal from down the hall, out the window whatever. It never helped so I uninstalled it. Now it seems it messed my connections up. I can't access wireless, or wired. Wireless shows no local signals, even tho my room mate (back home now) beside me picks our Linksys up. Direct wire takes forever to acquire address, and when it does "Limited or No Connectivity" comes up. I have updated to newest drivers, uninstalled both and restarted, and talked to helpdesk for over an hour to no avail. The only thing we came up with was the lack of a Network Bridge option. It used to be there, not anymore. Does that have some part to play in my lack of internet? So, no wireless, no wired (well limited or no connectivity), no network bridge. Installed a USB wireless antenae and I think it may have messed up my integrated networking abilities. Any ideas?

sorry, didn't mean for this to be at top of page like it is. to add to it, I can't enable the Wireless Zero Config service. When 'Viewing Wireless Connections' it says to use it to config the wireless connection, but I can't enable it in 'msconfig' not sure why it isn't, or how to get it going.

First of all, do a System Restore back to a point to where you started tinkering.  If not possible, uninstall all network cards thru the device manager, reboot, and then reinstall when prompted.

The trouble with the wired connection may be the length of the run.  How far is it?  The wireless issued may be nothing more than interference.  A bridge is not needed so leave that little jewel out.  Use the Windows Zero Configuration utility to manage the signal which is better suited for the task.

Post back an ipconfig /all so we can see what is happening.

Hooah!

I can't do a system restore back to any workable time. I tried going back as far as I could, to no avail. I have uninstalled all network cards, thru device manager, rebooted, reinstalled, multiple times. Trying once with the supplied device driver CD from Dell, and another time with new drivers downloaded from Dell.
Not sure how I can show you the ipconfig /all info, I am on my roomates Ibook (working flawlessly, bugar), if needed I can snapshot my screen with the ipconfig info and post it up somewhere.
A few parts that stand out tho;
Ethernet Adapter:
DHCP Enabed... Yes
Autoconfig IP add... 169.254.254.96 (that doesn't seem right)
Tunnel adapter Teredo, Pseudo-Interface:
DHCP Enabled... No
Netbios over TCPIP... Disabled
The wireless interference shouldn't be a problem, it has worked here before, and it worked up until the time I installed that linksys USB wireless device, everthing seemed to work fine up until it was installed. It had really lousy software, and I think it messed this up somehow, granted I can't figure out what it did that is causing this to occur. Worst case scenario I'll take it to a shop tomorrow and hope they can figure it out. thanks for the help, keep it coming.

ipconfig /all >> C:\ipconfig.txt

This will create a text file that you can copy and paste here.

Can tell you right now that your machine is not seeing a DHCP server.

To me, it looks like the Wireless card is turned off.  Does the Device Manager show it is installed?

I'm not sure what teh DHCP stuff means, but it has reared its head a few times during the diagnostics process with the Dell helpdesk and my own searching.
In 'Advanced TCP/IP Settings' in the IP Addresses area the only option is DHCP Enabled, which I don't reconize as being there previously (granted I don't know much about this topic) When I highlight it, I am unable to Remove or Edit it, and I can not add others either.
Not sure if this is relevant, just stood out to me when looking.
I am keeping an eye on this page tonite, if you require any additional info let me know and I will get it too you.
thanks.

Google for a Program named WinSockFix for XP and run it.  The last thing I can thing of now is the TCP stack is corrupt and needs to be reset.

Tried the program you mentioned, again nothing.
I am not liking that DHCP says its enabled in the 'Advanced Settings" yet on the ipconfig its not enabled.
This is really annoying, but I am learning some about it, thanks again for that.
If thats all we can come up with, I'll bring it into a shop tomorrow and have them give it a shot.
appreciate the help thus far tho.
