MAC and PC Sharing Internet

I am having trouble with having my Mac and PC share the internet at the same time.  I have highspeed connection.  I tried networking the 2 computers via switch.  everything appears to be connected properly and I am getting good signals from the switch but when I try to access the internet from the Mac, it fails to do so.  At one time the Mac was able to connect.
Should I get rid of the switch and put in a router?

You cannot share an internet connection through a switch unless your ISP provides with you two static IP addresses, usually charging you extra for the second the IP address.   Replace the switch with a router and everything should work well, as routers are designed to share an internet connection using a single IP address.
