Mini express card!

Question

Hi,   I have recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1300 notebook computer for the sole purpose of allowing me to access my e-mail account and the internet whilst I am travelling. I am having difficulty however trying to establish which mini express card is required for this machine in order that I can do this.  I am now aware that a normal PCMCIA is not compatible with this machine but I cannot establish what part I need to purchase.  Can anyone help me in this regard.

What wireless service provider do you use? Dell offers a card for verizon. All of the major carriers offer an express card for the express card slot on your laptop

Thanks for that.  I was out making enquiries today trying to find such an adapter but I had no joy. Could you perhaps send the link again as it appears to be missing!

PCMCIA cards are being fazed out. i sent you a link for a card with an adapter for pcmcia slots. you will need to find an adapter for your card similar to the one i linked to.

I am in the UK and as far as I can asertain mini cards are something of a rarity.  PCMCIA cards seem to be the preferred format.  Does this make sense?  I am afraid I am a bit of a novice in respect of these things!!!!

The slot on this system is an ExpressCard slot which is faster than the older PCMCIA card. Now if you have this card already then you have two options: Use an adapter like the one that spectrumwrangler has suggested or here's another adapter that you might look at so you can compare. Or, you could go ahead an purchase one of the new ExpressCards that fit into the slot. Most of the major vendors (Sprint, Cingular, Verizon) now have these cards available or you can purchase them from Dell too. Here is a search that I did on the Dell web site to help you get started be sure that you look for the vendor. Dell does sell adapters for these vendors.
