Missing Network Connection

Question

So I reformatted my Dimension 4500 yesterday, and put XP Pro on it. Now the 'ethernet controller' shows up under 'other devices' in the Device Manager. When I 'remove' it and restart Windows finds the new hardware and asks me if I want to install it. I say yes and use the driver cd that came with the pc but it never finds the right driver. When I just use the CD it tells me it has a driver for my NIC but I have installed it and nothing happens. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Is their a chipset driver on the driver CD? This needs to be installed first!, for the very reason you state. The computer fails to install, or recognize other hardware.
