Modem Help

I'm getting an error 633 on my Dell PC when I try to connect to the internet (I have dial up). The error says the modem is in use or not configured properly. This all started when I left my internet connected one evening during a thunderstorm ( I wasn't home) and when I came back to my computer, the internet was disconnected with the error message up. I have already called my ISP, and they told me to reinstall the modem drivers. I did that with no luck.

My guess is the modem is shot. So my question is, how do I get it fixed & how much will it cost me?

This question is impossible to answer without knowing which model computer you have and whether or not you have any free PCI slots in the computer.

I have a dimension 3000, and I don't know what PCI slots are.

It is likely the modem is installed in a PCI slot.  See the service manual for your system at:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim3000/en/SM/parts.htm#wp1043338

Look under the hearding - Cards.

You should be able to find a new PCI modem for less than about $15 at places like Circuit City, CompUSA, Frey's BestBuy, etc.
