Modem not detected

I bought a Dell dimension 3000 last month and ever since I have been trying to connect to the internet with no luck. An error window keeps popping up saying modem not detected. I have allowed all application to AOL checked the device manager and it still does not work. The modem that is listed on my invoice is (313-2279) 56K PCI Data/Fax modem, is this a real modem or do I need something else for it to work. I just don't get it. PLEASE HELP ME.:womanmad:

Hi

I'm in exactly the same position as you, i bought the same pc with the same modem fitted.  Did you receive a lead to connect your modem to the phone line?  I didn't, the only lead included was the network cable, however as I had a lead from an old computer I used that, however it doesn't work and when I look through my system I can't find a modem.

If somebody out there can help with this problem I'd be very grateful.

Are you asking if you have a modem? You probably do. In xp go to control panel>system>hardware>device manager> scroll down to see if you have a modem. If you do and there is no exclamation next to it. You have one... you probably knew this allready, but there is no way to tell how expert someone is...

I did all that but could not find any modem. However I called Dell and spoke to a nice representative who led me step by step in opening the tower and taking out the modem and placing it in a different slot. That was the problem. Thank you for replying.
