Perhaps it's the CNET Pro200WL Ethernet Adapter. Had you tried that one?

Yes, that's one of them on the resource CD, but it doesn't work.

You may be able to determine what the original card was by going to the Dell Support website, registering, entering your system's Service Tag number, and then selecting "Original System Configuration" under "Select a Tool". Another possibility is to call Dell Support for assistance.

I solved the problem. I believe the network card was faulty. I took it out of the Dimension and put it in a system running XP. The XP system couldn't detect what the card was either. I therefore threw it away and put a new $20 network card in the Dimension. It recognized the new card immediately and installed the correct drivers. 
No Events found!
