Network Keeps Disconnecting Fix,Intermittent.
I have noticed alot of people having issues with intermittent disconnect issues. I had this problem for the longest time since getting the desktop. I was at my ends wit when I finally called support and they wanted to charge me for a PC that was 5 months old saying that my issuue was a software problem in which it was not.
I must note for this fix to work your "network adapter" must be PCIe in which most newer models should be. To confirm this go into the Device Manager and find your Network Adapter and right click. While in there go to the "Power management" tab and uncheck the box that reads"Allow the Computer to turn off this Device to save power". After doing so go to the "Control Panel" and select power options.Regardless of which box is checked go to the far right side and click on "Change Plan Settings". This brings you to another screen called "Edit Plan Settings". You will notice two options under "Put The Computer to Sleep". Select "Change Advanced Power Settings". This brings up your "Power Options" tab, once here select the PCI Express and expand. Then select the "Link State Power Management" and expand. Set the "Link State Power Management" setting to off. You won't have to restart, make sure you apply the setting and select ok. I did this just the other day and it solved my intermittent disconnect.I haven't had an issue since. Under the default Dell plan, the PC powers down the PCIe link causing the disconnect. When you run the network troubleshooter it brings the PCIe link out of sleep mode and reconnects to the internet. I assume that this same rule can be followed for the USB setting under the Power Options also but that doesn;t apply to me so I never attempted.
By the way, thanks for nothing Dell. Just inform your phone techs to help out your past and possibly future customers by not recommending updating and reinstalling an OS when it's clearly not the issue here. trust me when I say you are not the only manufacturer to hear complaints. HP hates me too because their networking has major flaws. Good luck all, Focker out.

It's been a few years since I posted this fix with the link state power management settings. I just wanted to verify the reason this can become an issue is by simply changing when the Desktop or Laptop goes to sleep or Hibernates. This is not an operating system flaw. If you want to verify this condition without performing the forementioned tweak to the LSPM settings. Simply go into the control panel and select hardware and sound then power options. Click on change settings for the already marked power plan and set the Display to never and set Sleep to never. If you don't drop your connection use the above tweak to customize the settings for the network adapters in the Device Manager. I've made this tweak to many laptops and Desktops since I found out the issue with LSPM and it works. This tweak can be applied to any manufacturer that uses the windows based operating system. Good luck all.

I was so pleased to find this post. Even though it wasn't Dell related I had exactly the same problem. Every time my computer went to sleep my wifi would drop out and I would have to reconnect it. Thanks to your solution it's not fixed. Thank you so much!!
