Onboard Ethernet Controller driver

Hi all...

Major pain here today... Rebuilt the HDD but had problems... In device manager, I had two yellow question marks, one for SM Bus Controller, the other for Ethernet Controller... I managed to fix the SM Bus on with a new chipset driver but tried all known drivers for the Ethernet Controller and it still doesn't work...

After fixing my SM Bus issue, I got the "Processor" subtitle under the Device Manager index to come on... Checking on other machines, I am missing my "Network" subtitle under the Device Manager index - due to no Ethernet Controller driver...

The driver update screen says "No drivers installed"... Tried to install many, all Dell 4550s, but it just laughs at me...  PCI Bus 2, device 8...

Any ideas besides a good swift kick ???

Thanks...
J.R.

Did you attempt to install either of these drivers before you installed the chipset driver?  If so, you may have to start over because it is absolutley essential that the chipset drivers be the first device drivers installed.

No - I think I did the Ethernet drivers first...  Will try the two again...

If you have the Gigabit network adapter, the drivers are at:

If you have the 10/100 network adapter, the drivers at:

Both are ethernet adapters.  Note for the future - it's always a good idea to know exactly what you have on your computer and have the drivers ready for those devices before you reformat the hard drive.  Good luck.
