Steve,

I did try booting in Safe Mode with Network Support, but it was to no avail; I still couldn't log onto the Internet.  I also disabled my McAfee Firewall and made sure that the Windows Firewall was turned off, but the problem persists.

I'm fairly sure that the router I'm connecting to is my own Netgear.  There is one other wireless network in the vicinity that my system detects, but it's secured.

Whatever is causing this problem seems to be rather subtle.

You are indeed making a connection to a router, but it is impossible to tell which router you are connecting to as the 192.168.xxx.xxx could be coming from any router.  Are you running any firewall software that may be blocking internet access?  Can you boot to Safe Mode with Network Support and get a sucessful internet connection through wireless?

Hi..try these
  • start >all prog> intel proset wireless> and if intel is managing wireless then press f10 on keyboard. and let windows manage the wireless,
  • go to control panel>network connection>right click on wireless network connection click on view wireless network..(plzz skip the first step if windows is already managing the wireless)
  • then connect to network and then see if it says that it is connected in that case plzz go ahead and connect theh modem to the computer and chk.. if u can go online by modem call router manufacturer if not call internet service provider.
