Problem with Inspiron 1300 and internal WiFi

Question

Hello all, i bought my first Dell laptop.. and i couldnt setup my wireless card... i dont know how to see if there is a internal wireless.. when i go to the bios setupm i can see a 'Wireless' option.. this is cause i have an internal wireless card?... when i go to the device manager.. i cant see the wireless card.. i press Fn + F2, it appears to be enabled.. but nothings happend.. i cant see the wireless in the device manager or in network connections. please i need help. go to your control panel then choose network connections. it should be listed there. double click wireless. see if it finds any in your area if it does you have the internal wireless card. You will need a wireless router to connect to. linksys is good and are at a good price. wrt54gs is a good router.

Yes, the icon appears.. but nothing happends.. but in the bios i have an option called wireless.. it mean something?? like i have a internal wifi card? or i dont have it?

there might be no one in your area with wireless networks. do u live in the sticks with no one around you. if so u will have to buy a wireless router. not just a router it has to have 1 or 2 antennas sticking up out of it.

when u hit that fn and f2 key does a antenna type thing popup near the clock. looks like a tower with radio waves. it should show up and find wireless networks in the area. if it dont then there is no wireless internal card.

I have one with one antenna.. but it starnge,, coz with another wireless cards i can use it without troubles

The topic being discussed in this thread has nothing to do with the card slot on the side of the computer. It has to do with the internal MinPCI slot (a completely different animal). Furthmore, in another thread you claim to have a 600m, now you say you have a 1300 - which is it?

i just got the same computer and I called the 1-800 number and they told me that we do not have the slot for the PCMCIA card, which is the standard slot for reading wireless cards. It seems like we have the slot for the new standard which is Express card.

Unfortunately, they don't tell us that when we buy the computer. I use Cingular wireless and they don't even know what an Express card is. I'm just going to have to return the computer.

they must be doing away with pcmcia cards and going towards the express cards in future. they are being prepaired for the next set of cards.
