You should be able to connect without using any of the ATT software. In fact, the software they supply has been known to cause many problems. The only reason you should ever need any of it is if you have a very old DSL modem (bridge mode only) and you need the software to log in for you. Newer modems and systems with routers shouldn't need this to be done on the computer.

You might try installing it all and see if that helps.
