re-setting up computer after hard drive crash
My hard drive was recently fried. Went out and bought a new one. Re-installed Windows XP. The computer is now completely clean with no software on it except those automatically installed when installing XP which includes Explorer. Could not connect to the internet using explorer. Installed SBC software, went through the installation process, got a message saying cannot connect to the internet, that there was no connection established. I'm connected through the same router I'm currently using another computer on so obviously nothing wrong with the connection.
I guess the question is, do I have to reinstall all of the drivers in order to connect?
- You don't say which model computer you have or which version of Windows you have, which makes answering your questions somewhat more difficult as it requires that my crystal ball is working (which it usually isn't). I'm going to assume you are running Windows XP. After reinstalling Windows it is essential that you install all of the drivers for your system in the proper order and include the drivers for the network adapter. the most important thing to install are the CHIPSET driver which is under COntroller driver and the network driver....it doesnt matter what order you're going to choosedecoder101

IF you dont have the DELL inspiron resource Cd then try this:
try to goto this website
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen
> enter the service tag of your dell computer
> then click on drivers download
> click on the network driver and choose the right driver for you,
- YES IT ABSOLUTELY DOES MATTER WHICH ORDER TO YOU CHOOSE!!!You must install the Notebook System Software (under System Utilities) and chipset drivers (under Chipset) before even attempting to install any other device drivers. If you don't do it this way, you may have to start all over, rerformatting and reinstalling Windows in order to correct this grave mistake.Steve

volcano11 is absolutely correct.
Installation in any other order risks errors and a possible reinstallation at worse.
