Set up wireless network fine - but can't file transfer!
Hi
I have managed to set up a wireless network ok, in so far as I can access the internet wirelessly fine on my laptop using a broadband router.
However, I am unable to share files between my laptop and desktop. I have been through the network wizard thing, and set up the network.
However, when I enter explorer, the network is visible, but when I click on it, it takes ages then comes up with the message, "you do no have permission to access this network - please contact the administrator". This is the same on both laptop and desktop.
I have tried disabling all firewalls but to no avail.
I have also tried going to Run then entering
\\computername to access it that way, but still does not work. I've spent hours going through various forums and trying things others have suggested but still it doesn't work!
Any ideas anyone? Any advise much appreciated.

done as you said, made sure the files i want to share are enabled for sharing.
However, I still get the same error message...
Should I be able to access the network in windows explorer? Whenever I try and click on the network I've "created" it freezes for ages then gets the error message out. "You might not have permission to use this network source. The list of workgroups for this server is currently unavailable"

- Sorry to appear stupid, but how do i check whether file and print sharing is enabled?When I went through the network setup wizard (many times) I ensured that I did ask for file sharing and print sharing to be enabled, but how do I check that it actually worked?Thanks.
- Go to the properties setting for your card and look and see if "wireless and print sharing module for windows" is listed in the area that enumerates which services your connection is using. (Also, make sure a check mark in the box on the left.) If the module is not listed then add it via the add button at the bottom.
Good Luck. - did you tried getting into the system by using the ip address already? also.. maybe there's some security settings for that conection that you have established.. i dont know so much about wireless but i know that there's some extended features about wireless there
arg! yup, checked my wireless card, and file/print sharing is enabled and everything looks fine!
Not tried typing the IP address yet, will do so later...
I just type \\ and then the IP ad number right? eg. \\123.456.789.2.3 or whatever it is...
i don't actually type the words ip.address...? (just checking!)
I have a feeling this won't work either... i just had an idea - i still have Windows SP1 on my desktop, and SP2 on my laptop - this wouldnt be causing conflict problems would it?
- I've been having the same problem since I bought my Inspiron 6000. All of the other laptops on my network work fine. Even share with my Macs..The only difference with the Dell is the Intel Wireless garbage . Worst peice of equipment ever bestowed on the computer world.
