You need to provide more information. Are you planning on sharing an internet connection on the network? If so then you need a wireless router. If not, you would only need a wireless access point. See the following site for help with options available and setting up a network:
If you are going to be sharing a dialup internet connection, you will need an ethernet card in the computer that makes the dialup connection and a wireless access point or wireless router running in access point mode to connect to the laptop wirelessly and share the dialup connection. Note that doing it this way, the computer that is making the dialup connection will have to be powered on when the other computer wants access to the internet and will have to be running internet connection sharing software (built in to Windows 98SE, ME, and XP).

I want to be able to share files and a printer, but also use my notebook without being physically attached to a phone line.
