USB Network Adapter Problem

Question

I have a new (2 months old) Dell Dimension 5100. We are using a wireless internet system. We have a router connected to the Cable modum in our kitchen on the first floor of our house. Our computer is on the second floor. We have installed a Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with Speed Booster (Model No. WUSB54GS). We did, however, try a Belkin USB Network Adapter prior to the current one in use. We have an ongoing problem. When we turn on the computer, we get a blue screen error message that includes the following information: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL; STOP: 0X000000D1 (0XF7B6AFA4, 0X00000002, 0X00000001, 0XF7922AAC); RNDISMP.SYS-Address F7922AACC base at F791E000; Date Stamp 41107c6b. I have contacted Dell's support, Linksys's support to no avail. I have run diagnostic tests which show no problems and performed a system restore to a date prior to installation of the wireless hardware. I then re-installed the wireless software. As soon as I inserted the CD, the computer shut down and I got the blue screen. I undid the system restore. I also have the wireless adapter plugged into a hub with a separate power source instead of directly into the CPU, but that does not help. Sometimes the computer will boot with no problem, other times I get the blue screen. I find that if I disconnect the wireless card, boot up the computer and then connent the wireless card, I don't get the blue screen. Has anyone experienced this or a similar problem? Does anyone have any idea as to what might be causing this problem? I am not a very sophisticated user, but am willing to learn. Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Pheasant

I have tried updating the driver from the Linksys website, but all indications are that there is no update available.

I do not have a Linksys router. How would I disable the speed booster?

You might try downloading the latest drives for the wireless USB adapter from the Linksys web site. Is your router also a Speed Booster Linksys router? If not, then you might want to try disabling the speed boost technology on the USB card.

Did you get a User Manual with the network adapter? Since I don't have one, I can't tell you how to disable it. My approach, if I did have one, would be to read the User Manaul. If there is a utility that loads the for the network adapter, you might try looking at options in that utility.

I had this same problem, if you right click on the Linksys box on your tool bar and select Use Windows XP Wireless to monitor it seems to correct the problem. When using the Linksys software to monitor the network is when I recived the blue death screen error.
