Do you know the IP address of your router?  To find out,  go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. If you are connecting to your router, then the Default Gateway address in the ipconfig output is your router's IP address.

When you type this in the web browser, you may need to put http//: in front of it and you should be doing this from a connection that is hard wired into the router through one of it's ethernet ports.

hey this is his brother (also a computer person). i must say, aaron (the one you were talking to) just found out that his buddy passed away..so i presume he was writing that through teary eyes. i have a basic idea of what he is talking about. the IP address that i found after doing your steps still yeilded the same sort of page...not the page that i know you are talking about. any further tips?
thanks

I have no idea what you are saying.  Perhaps some punctuation would help.

ok. i type in the ip address that i find on the dos screen. the dns server thingy that you said. it still gives me this page saying that it has no idea what i am talking about. maybe i can give you a little more information. (i dont know if this is normal but) i have 2 ethernet boxes in the "connections" file that both need to be on in order for my internet to work. the one says "broadband" and then goes to a thing that says "connected." the other says "LAN/high speed line". the LAN/high speed thing must be connected but all the properties of this folder must be disabled for my internet to work. it also doesn't ever say any specific numbers like ip addresses or anything....just a bunch of blanks. if you would like some pictures i could send you some if you do not understand what i am talking about. at any rate i really appreciate the help. these 0's and 1's are enough to drive you nuts. thanks

That sounds like you are connecting to the modem without an intervening router.   Is your modem/router set to router mode?   Did the users manual help any?

Is this computer connecting to the router (i.e. does is show that it is getting an IP address in the range 192.168.xxx.xxx when you do the ipconfig /all)?  Is it wired to the router by ethernet (I think I have asked this before)?

According to the users guide for that router (page 17):

You need to open a web browser and type http://192.168.1.1 into address bar (or http://:dslrouter)

yea i guess i mean on the router. but no matter what numbers i type in on my url thing, it still brings up this screen acting like im searching for these numbers. in the past i have viewed the router page and made changes, but that was my old computer.

What drivers are asking about?  Are you connected to the router by a wired connection when you attempt ot log on to the router's configuration program.  Note the configuration program resides on the router, not on any computer.

i dont know how to tell if it is in router mode but on the screen after i do the "cmd" thing in the start menu...it says:
node type: unknown
IP routing enabled:   No
WINS proxy enabled: No

the along with the ip address and everything it says:
Dhcp enabled: no
and "connection specific DNS suffix" it  has nothing after the colon

maybe that will help
