Why can my Dell Laptop connect to wifi but not get internet through it?

I have a dell vostro 3400, and I can connect to any wifi network, and while other computers can get internet through them, I can only get limited access. Also, I am running connectify(internet sharing program), a virtual wifi router and I can connect devices to it, but they cannot get internet through it (even when my laptop gets it through Ethernet). Is this a hardware problem? Software, OS? I've had the comp for over a year and it's always worked perfectly... Thanks!

kosuruvr,

Your defualt gateway has a strange ip address. First try this...

Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)

Restart the computer and try to connect.

What happens?

raj573,

The ip address of 169.254 shows there is a problem with your ISP modem/router communicating with your wireless router(if any)

Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)

Restart the computer and try to connect.

What happens?

If you're trying an ad-hoc connection, you have to connect each time you want to connect. Problems can be using an ad-hoc connection, you can only connect to that one device, and if you're trying to also connect to the internet, that would not work.

It is somewhat confusing moment that laptop is connected but not connecting to internet. We need to understand that we do not always have the issue of a laptop sometimes it can be a problem due to accessing router settings .

So reset the router first.
> Unplug the router from the power gateway.
> Plug it back.
> hold the button present on the back of Router.
> release it after 10 to 20 second.
> Wait for few minutes.
> The router to fully reset.
