WIFI problems on Dell xps 15 L521X

I got my Brand new xps 15 yesterday, It works fine, looks great, I'm overall satisfied with it. (even though it gets warm all the time)

Problem is, the WIFI doesn't work well at all, I'm 2 meters from my box right now, And I'm not experiencing any problems, but as soon as I get upstairs in my bedroom, my signal speed drops significantly, I can't even load a youtube video, I was downloading a game from steam yesterday, and the dl speed dropped to 6mb/s!! That's awful, If this problem can't be fixed, I'll be returning mine, and won't buy any other Dell product, I don't see how a laptop that pricey can have that kind of problems. ( because I heard I wasn't the only one, a lot of people have the same problem)

Anyways, if any of you have a solution to fix my problem (Like a Bios), I'd be really grateful.

Thanks !

(sorry for my english, I'm french)

i dont know if dell is workin on this.. or reading this.. but i do know they removed one of my posts here. biggest problem ineould say is the graphics card not behavong right. and computer overheats right when u start doing something. and the fan just is working all the time therefore consuming even more battery so the battery is also very short.

I received my XPS15 the same day i returned it. Tested WIF out of the box, and have a 75mbps FiOS connection. Next to router barely got 20 mbps download speed, my 4 yr old HP HDX16 gets 84 mbps at least 20 feet away still. I will NOT EVER BUY ANOTHER DELL UNLESS THEY ADDRESS THIS MESS.  All my friends know about this. All of my facebook pals know about the bad wifi performance now too. How can Dell let this issue continue?

I will only buy again if wifi issue is fixed permanently.

Which BIOS version do you have? Look in the BIOS and try to disable speedstep. I also had problems with my graphic card and this resolved it...

what ive noticed from the past few times was that the game ran quite smoothly for a while in windowed mode, but as soon as

i would set it to full screen it suddenly starts to lag.

I have been following this thread for a while now. I recently upgraded my home network with 6 new ubiquiti unifis and have been testing everything out. After spending $500 on a wireless network upgrade, it's a little disappointing to find out that the card in your laptop can't even get a good connection with excellent signal strength.

Anyway, I have 2 L521X's (double pain for me). One is a little older than the other and has a DW1901 wireless card, the other has the Killer N 1202. I have been doing most of my testing on the DW1901, but I will do some further testing on the Killer N to see if it has the same issues. On my 1901, I'm not even getting .5 mbps throughput in places where other, normal, cheaper, laptops are getting 30 mbps with no problem.

In the mean time, could someone here tell me what is currently the best solution to this problem should I go the warranty route? Is Killer N any better than the Dell 1901? From what I understand, it's the antenna/aluminum case and not the card itself. Anyone found a good solution to this? I've read the whole thread, but don't see anything definitive.

UPDATE: I ran some further tests with my XPS15 that has the Killer N wireless card. As far as I can tell it has nearly identical performance to the DW1901. All of my speed tests with the DW1901 and Killer N landed between 1-5 mbps. For reference, I ran speed tests with my Galaxy S4, an old Sony Vaio (which might not even have an N card) and a newer sony Vaio all in the exact same location. All results on other devices were between 20 and 30mbps. Something is definitely still wrong here with these XPS laptops and I would really like to see Dell try to find a real solution to this problem. It seems unacceptable for a $1300+ laptop.

My update is:

Dell sent me a new computer last week guess what, did my test speed and have the same problem, now they are sending me a tech guy to replace some parts of the laptop not wireless, I think they will replace some cables and the antena.

I contacted TerryB and he had the wireless card changed to Killer N and whole display assembly replaced on my older XPS 15. It still comes nowhere near my newer XPS, which also has the Killer N, in terms of performance. It actually became worse after the change. I messaged Terry B again over a week ago, multiple times to let him know it was still not resolved and have yet to receive a response. The replacement display I received was refurbished so maybe it didn't have latest antenna design? I suppose now I'm left in the dust?

This is so frustrating. I spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support and the best they could do was offer another LCD and wireless card replacement. Will see if that fixes anything, but I have my doubts at this point. If I can't get this resolved, I am absolutely never buying a Dell product again. What a waste of time dealing with such a silly thing.

My latest update they changed the display,  wireless card and antena and It's the same problem.

Dell is picking upmy second XPS 15 laptop that they sent me and they will replace my computer with a different Dell laptop model, looks like there are not many options in terms of hardware.
