    Marypauuul,

The red X on your WiFi icon indicates that the connection is disabled. There can be a number of reasons for this. You do not mention which OS is installed.Below is information for turning on the wifi in Windows OS/. There is also a link for troubleshooting and resolving wired and wireless network issues below,

If you need to download and reinstall the wireless drivers for your computer you can click the link below.

If Windows 8/81. is installed follow the steps below.

How to turn on or turn off WiFi/Bluetooth?

A NOTE indicates important information that helps you make better use of your computer. NOTE:
There is no physical switch to enable/disable wireless. It has to be done through PC settings.
    1. Launch Settings Charm and select Change PC settings.
    2. Select Wireless from the left pane.
    3. Under the Wireless devices option, move the WiFi/ Bluetooth slider to turn it off. Move the slider again to turn it on.

    If Windows 10 is installed:

:Launch the Settings app and navigate to "Network & Internet".In the Wi-Fi section, you'll find all the wireless networks available to you Make sure that Airplane mode is set to off as well,.

If you have Windows 7 installed:

To enable/disable the wireless in windows 7 you would toggle the keys FN+F2
