Baldie,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try connecting without the router to see if the computer picks up the IP address.

I connected my laptop to a cable on my network and it worked fine. It was able to grab an IP address, however I cannot get one once I go wireless. I was having this same issue my gf's network, it would not grab an IP. I'm starting to guess this is a PC Card issue. I just bought this pc card from dell a few months ago, so I hope they can fix it for me it that is what the case is. Any other ideas I can try?

Baldie,

Most routers generate IP addresses of 192.168.?.? and my suggestion was to remove this from the equation by connecting directly to the ISP.

I am having this same exact problem. At home, I can connect to my netgear wireless router without any problems. However, when go I on campus, it absolutely refuses to pick up an IP address from the cisco AP's they use for the their campus-wide wireless networks. This problem just started a few days ago. At first I thought it must be the campus AP's screwing up, since it would work at home. However, I can't seem to see any setting on my wireless config that would allow me to connect at home using DHCP and not on campus, with the same settings.

So to summarize:

At Home: I can connect to the wireless router and get an IP address

On Campus: I can detect the wireless AP's, but cannot gain an IP address from them (instead getting a 169 address, instead of a 128, which is what it should be).

I never had to change any settings before in going between the two. I tried renewing the IP address (ipconfig), clearing all the settings and resetting them. I upgraded the wireless drivers. None of it worked at all.
