Note that the "Super G" (108 Mbps) speeds are only supported by certain other Netgear products. You may need to disable "Super G" on the WGT624 in order to have it interoperate properly with non-Netgear devices.

My laptop had been working fine for about 2 months prior to this. It's set to interoperate with b & g devices. But I don't see how that could make my laptop's hardware radio switch turn on and off.

Did this problem begin after you installed the WGT624? Since you've already updated the laptop's software, check that the router's firmware is current. While I agree that the 108 mb speed shouldn't cause the laptop's radio to shut off, there may be unresolved bugs in the adapter software that are being triggered by the 108 mb router setting.

See Dell Document Number TT1089315

I've had the problem, too, with my dell 8600 with intel 2100 card

I went into the hardware properties of the card (Device manager, properties on card) and under advanced, upped the power management to max.  That fixed my problem.

I already tried uppping the power management to full.

I noticed in NetStumbler that the connection looked *better* yesterday, but still not a good connection. I rebooted the router yet again, started looking for more possible info on this, and it started working. My Xbox adapter started working at the same time too.

This makes me uncomfortable, there was definitely something running that was resetting the wireless connection.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, hopefully this problem won't crop up again.

I have the exact same problem.  I have a Linksys wireless router and two 300m with built in wireless.  Both of them will have very spotty wireless connection.  It'll be at full signal one minute, then every 4 minutes or so, it'll just log off, or restart and I'll just have to relog back into the network.  I don't know what's going on?  The first day I had this, it was totally fine, but then all of sudden one day it just stopped working.  I also tried upping my power level consmption for the card too. But that didn't work.

I have an 8600 that has just started having this problem. I go from full green to no bars at all on the Intel Pro set toolbar icon. I spent 4 hours the other night updating the firmware of the MSN-500 B router, and rebooting it and swearing and tearing out my hair. Then the next day had my girlfriend try it and it worked fine.

So it seems that it works for hours, then shuts down. Has down this 5 times in the last week. I have to reboot to get it to get going. My girlfriends laptop keeps working. The really strange thing is is that the adaptor keeps picking up other networks in the area. But cannot connect to them as they are secure, at least I think they are.

Any ideas?

I emailed Dell about this. And they were able to solve the problem.  It's takes a couple of steps. First you must set up your wireless connection properly.  Meaning you must make sure the have the SSID and whatever password setup correctly.  Then you have to turn off your Wireless Zero Configuration.  This is the email that he sent me.  It's 3 separate steps.

Thanks for the KB articles. The problem hasn't come back for me, but maybe that's because I'm using the Intel PROSet utility to connect now. I'll keep this in mind if the problem comes back.
