wireless driver

My M.I.L. purchased a Vostro 1700 model PP22X. It came with Vista Home. She found out some of her business programs do not run on Vista. She has purchased XP Pro and I am installing it and will update the XP drivers from the Dell website.

Everything is in and is working fine except the wireless driver. It is a 1390 and I have tried to install it using the Dell downloads and the Windows update recognizes it but it never seems to download properly, any thoughts?

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that Windows Update recognizes it.  Windows Update should have nothing to do with installation of the wireless drivers.  You need to download the installation file from the Dell web site, then run the file to install the drivers.

Note that it absolutely critical to install the chipset drivers before even attempting to install other device drivers.  Did you install the chipset drivers first?
